As a Clinical Psychologist, Maria is trained and experienced in a range of evidence-based psychological therapies. This allows her to be able to draw upon, and integrate, different therapeutic models to tailor therapy to the individual rather than adopt a “one-size” fits all approach. Maria is particularly experienced in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, alongside therapies such as Compassion Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
An initial appointment with Maria would last approximately 90 minutes. The purpose of this appointment would be to start to develop a shared understanding of the concerns and begin to formulate your goals for therapy, along with a recommended treatment plan, where appropriate. For some people, this assessment appointment, along with some advice and guidance may be all that is required. There is no obligation to arrange further appointments after this initial assessment.
Where additional follow-up appointments are arranged these will last around 50 minutes. The number of sessions needed will vary between individuals, as will the frequency. This will depend on the therapeutic approach recommended and the presenting difficulty(ies). Therapy sessions are typically weekly, or fortnightly, but will always be tailored to your needs and preferences.
