Inside Out Psychology is an Independent Clinical Psychology service. Owned and run by Dr Maria Knapp, the company provides specialist, expert psychological assessment and therapy services to children, young people, adults and families across Cheshire and Merseyside.
Additional services including supervision, consultation, expert assessment, teaching and training are also provided to mental health professionals, professional agencies, schools and solicitors.
Maria is trained to use a variety of evidenced-based therapeutic approaches to provide the most effective way of working with you to address your current concerns. With skills and experience of working with children, young people, families and adults, she can provide an individualised, bespoke assessment and treatment plan, which is collaboratively designed with you and for you.
Maria often works in an integrated way, most frequently drawing upon Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy and third-wave therapies such as Mindfulness, Compassion Focused Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
An initial appointment would last approximately 90 minutes. The purpose of this appointment would be to discuss the reasons that led you to seek support and to start to consider the underlying causes of the concerns. At the end of the appointment, we would begin to formulate your goals for therapy, along with a recommended treatment plan, where appropriate. For some people, this assessment appointment, along with some advice and guidance may be all that is required.
Where additional follow-up appointments are arranged these will last around 50-60 minutes. The number of sessions needed will vary between individuals, as will the frequency. This will depend on the therapeutic approach recommended and the presenting difficulty(ies).
Therapy can be weekly or fortnightly, but it will always be tailored to your needs and preferences.
Regular reviews will be planned as part of the therapy so that it remains flexible and best suited to meet your needs . Often therapy tasks or "homework" will be suggested to complete in between appointments to assist in more effective progress towards your goals.
Self-referrals can be made by contacting us by phone, email or our contact form. Appointments will only be confirmed once Maria has contacted you to discuss whether she can offer the support being requested. For referrals of adults over the age of 16 years, consent for assessment from the person being referred is required before an appointment can be made.
If you are claiming treatment costs via a private health-care provider, you might need a referral directly from them or your GP/Consultant. Your health-care provider will be able to advise you of their process and provide you with an authorisation code, as appropriate.
